Teenager Arrested In Baseball Bat Attack

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A 17-year-old has been arrested in connection with a violent attack at Mary O'Malley Park in Chelsea after an off-duty security guard was beaten with a baseball bat.

The teenager is set to be arraigned Tuesday morning in Chelsea District Court and will be charged with aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, and armed assault with intent to murder.

The victim, an off-duty security guard, was hit in the head with a baseball bat around 11:30 a.m. Monday morning near the tennis courts at Mary O'Malley Park.

The weapon was tossed behind the courts into the Island End River, where Massachusetts State Police divers appeared to retrieve a bat.

No motive has been given for the teen's actions, and the victim remains in critical condition at Massachusetts General Hospital.
