WELLESLEY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — As a new season approaches, the Massachusetts Horticultural Society is gearing up to host the 139th New England Fall Flower Show this weekend.

The show will include various kinds of events, exhibits and judged competitions that will showcase the best in horticulture, floral design, photography and more.

The theme for this year’s event is ‘World in Bloom’, which focuses on combining native and non-native flowers together.

Massachusetts Horticultural Society program director Karen Daubmann spoke about the theme and the inspiration she hopes it invokes in others.

“Something that’s loose enough and broad enough that you can pick your favorite plants that might not be native or might be native and really think about maybe travels that have influenced you or florists who’ve influenced you,” said Daubmann.

The Horticultural Society revived the event last year after it was left dormant for decades.

Daubmann noted the hard work, planning and dedication that went into holding the event and talked about what it will ultimately showcase.

“In the springtime we cut all of these hydrangeas back to just these little nubs and like this is there moment, so [we’re] sort of showcasing what’s in abundance at the end of the season right now,” said Daubmann.

Daubman also spoke on the importance of the event and the reactions from others she’s seen so far as they get ready for the show.

“I think everyone’s so proud of the work they put into their own plants and their own landscape, they want to share it with other people and to open up your car and have people ‘oohing’ and ‘aahing’ over what you’re putting on display is pretty cool,” said Daubmann.

The fall flowers will be on display from Sept. 20th – 21st at The Garden at Elm Bank in Wellesley.
