BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The annual Head of the Charles Regatta has brought rowers from across the country and the world to Boston.
The weather forecast in the city for this weekend is expected to be beautiful and warm, which is perfect timing for this year’s regatta.
WBZ NewsRadio spoke to John Romain, he has worked at the event for 41 years and hopes that this year’s will be just as successful.
“To provide a fun and welcoming experience for every athlete possible, and my job is to make sure that our start crew gives [rowers] a fair and safe start for 2,600 hulls across [more than] 70 events all weekend long,” Romain said.

For many athletes, this is an event that they have been training for all year.
“We’re ecstatic, it’s going to be a great race,” said Grant Gwadz, a B.U. student.
This will be Gwadz fifth Head of the Charles Regatta, and he shared some learned advice on proper racing etiquette.
“Don’t crash into any of the bridges, and win,” Gwadz quipped.
Gwadz is helping the new freshman students prepare for their first race on Sunday.
Over 1,200 athletes are competing this year, from high school students to those in their 90’s and every age in-between.
