BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — On Christmas Day, you can expect that most people’s trees have probably been up for weeks, but for some people, the tree may have gone up as late as last night, depending on how you celebrate.

Boston Christmas Trees in Allston were open until 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and the owners said that they always get last second tree buyers.

“We had a couple of families in here a half hour ago,” owner Chris Gregory said.

He said that they sold trees right until they shut the gates as some families have a tradition of picking up the tree late on Christmas Eve.

“For some people, it’s a tradition to get [the tree] on Christmas Eve and they call us to see if we have any and I tell them to come on by and we sell them a Christmas tree,” Gregory added.

Gregory offered some tips on how to keep your tree healthy through New Year’s Eve and beyond.

“Put [the tree] in a shady place, not near the sun or not near a radiator, give it plenty of water right away and maybe if you can mist it.”

At the end of the season, the trees that are not sold are given right back to the earth.

“For the ones that we don’t sell, we usually chip up and turn into mulch,” a store employee said.
