PEMBROKE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — An upcoming documentary gives Dartmouth College football fans a chance to look back on a legendary coach.

The Buddy Way” looks back at the historic coaching career of Pembroke’s Eugene “Buddy” Teevens III, who died tragically after a biking accident in 2023. Teevens was a head coach at Standford University and Tulane University, before returning to Dartmouth College where he became the school’s winningest coach.

Prior to his coaching career, Teevens was a star athlete at Silver Lake Regional High School in Kingston, Mass. Rick Swanson, athletic director of Silver Lake High School, said Teevens followed the path of a game changer.

“[By] hiring female assistant coaches, he was the first division one college football coach to do that,” said Swanson.

Peyton Manning is the executive producer of the documentary and said Teevens legacy goes “well beyond his success on the field.

“We are honored to share Buddy’s story and preserve his legacy. Buddy’s motto as a coach and leader was ‘adjust and improvise.’ But it was more than a motto; Buddy was a true football innovator,” said Manning in a press release.

Swanson is excited to see his old friend take the spotlight when “The Buddy Way” airs on ESPN2 at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

“He really stood for what is best,” said Swanson.

The documentary will be available on ESPN+ after its debut.
