BEVERLY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Cabot theater in Beverly hosted a screening of House of Spoils, directed by Massachusetts native Bridget Savage Cole, on Thursday.
The House of Spoils tells the story of a renowned chef (played by Ariana DeBose) opening her own restaurant in a remote estate when she starts to encounter some unexplainable presence.
Cole grew up in Beverly and said it felt surreal to be apart of the film industry. “Los Angeles and Hollywood is like Mars when you grow up in Massachusetts,” she told WBZ NewsRadio. “It’s just so far away and you’re not even thinking about it, never conceived that that was an actual career path, that film makers was even an actual job.”
Before finding cinematography, Cole worked for her dad’s construction crew and at the local seaside restaurants. She discovered her passion in art while attending Wesleyan University. She moved to New York City and found her footing in directing short films, music videos and more.
In 2019, she co-directed and co-wrote the film Blow the Man Down that received several awards and nominations. She also directed the 2020 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King's The Stand.

After her success, Cole wanted to host a screening to bring her latest film closer to home for her friends and family in Beverly.
“When I pitched the idea… [the studio] actually got excited,” she said.
The promotion was kind of a perfect coincidence as the film incorporates a lot of “witch themes” and the location of the Cabot is close to Salem, Mass., the Halloween capital of the country.
“I was excited they got behind the screening and have been really supportive of this,” Cole added.
The House of Spoils is streaming now on Amazon Prime and stars Ariana DeBose, Barbie Ferreira, Arian Moayed, Amara Karan, Mikkel Bratt Silset and Marton Csokas.
