PROVINCETOWN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Cape Cod is about to get its first recreational marijuana dispensary.
Curaleaf, one of the largest cannabis companies in the U.S., is planning to open the doors to its recreational pot shop in downtown Provincetown on January 29. That's assuming the store's owners receive the final local license from town officials during their meeting on January 28.
Curaleaf received a notice to commence operations from the Cannabis Control Commission on Wednesday of last week.
During that same meeting, another cannabis company also got approval to open as an adult-use location as early as Sunday January 18 in Plymouth. M3 Ventures Inc., which already operates its Plymouth store as a medical dispensary, got the go-ahead to start adult-use cultivation and manufacturing.
Curaleaf's president said he is expecting the new location in Provincetown to create more than 30 jobs.
One major concern for many residents living near potential marijuana shops is the possible impact on traffic and parking. Curaleaf will be located at 170 Commercial St., which is within walking distance to sever of the town's public parking lots. There is also a bike rack in front of the store.
Curaleaf's business hours will run 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the summer months, but it will have limited hours during the off-season, opening 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.
