ARLINGTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —  The Capitol Theater in Arlington is doing their part to save the planet while also keeping the movie theater business alive and thriving by installing solar panels on the rooftop of their theater.

The nearly 100-year-old Capitol Theater may have a deep history, and now the theater can add entering the solar age to its rich history.

WBZ NewsRadio spoke to owner Richard Fraiman, who showed off the panels to us from the roof.

“As you can see, we’ve used every possible square foot [of space] for power generation with these units, and they estimated that we could produce 100 percent of our electricity at this theater with an excess or surplus to export to the [Somerville Theater],” Fraiman said.

The Somerville Theater is the other boutique theater that Fraiman owns, and the solar power supply will successfully keep the lights on and projector screens running for the foreseeable future.

The real movie star at these theaters seems to be the ultimate one up in the sky, the sun.
