BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Massachusetts State Police are on the lookout for some new recruits: but this time, they're not looking for humans.

In a post on it's social media, the department is calling for "a few good" horses" to serve on it's Mounted Police Unit.

"If you or someone you know is looking to place a horse in a great working environment, please consider the State Police Mounted Unit," the department said. "Please know that our working horses are beloved members of our MSP family and are cared for with great devotion."

The requirements for eligible horses include:

  • Must be sound
  • Ages 5 to 16
  • Minimum height of 16 HH
  • Gelding preferred
  • 60-day trial basis
  • Bay or Black

While the department prefers donations, they said horses for sale will also be considered.

Those who would like to offer or sell a horse to the department can email submissions with the horse's information and photograph to MSPMountedUnit@pol.state.ma.us.
