MBTA Unveils New Charlie Service Center On State Street

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The CharlieCard Store in Boston has a new location, new look, and a new name.

What is now called the Charlie Service Center is located at 296 Washington St., between Milk and Water Streets near State and Downtown Crossing stations.

WBZ NewsRadio spoke to some of the first customers at the new location on Monday.

“[It’s] way cleaner, and smooth service,” one rider said.  

“The place is smaller and cleaner, and it's just plain nicer,” said another rider.  

Some customers also said the new location is more accessible because it is on street level. The old location that was underground in the Downtown Crossing MBTA station.  

“It’s a lot better than where it was, and it’s a lot more accessible, and especially because I’m a handicapped person,” another rider added.  

The Charlie Service Center is appointment only on Mondays from 8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. It is open for all other transactions Tuesday-Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We are committed to providing the public the level of service they both expect and deserve, and this new Charlie Card Service Center does exactly that. On behalf of our workforce, I am excited to welcome the public to our new and fully accessible street-level location,” MBTA General Manager Phillip Eng said in a statement.
