The MIAA Approves Vaccine Recommendation For High School Athletes

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) – The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) has approved a vaccine recommendation for high school athletes.

While the governing body of the high school sports in the state will not require vaccines for athletes, they do strongly encourage them.

Communications Director of the MIAA, Tara Bennett, said the organization has made some changes to navigate sports during a pandemic.

“Like everyone else we’ve adapted,” she said. “I think the challenge is just knowing that the decisions that you make are for the safety of the students and the coaches and the communities.”

Bennett said the Sports Medicine community of the association suggested the recommendation after meeting last week. The board voted unanimously in favor of this recommendation.
