BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Aurora Borealis, also known as the northern lights, could make an appearance in parts of Massachusetts this weekend.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said a massive solar flare erupted Thursday and predicts the lights could appear in New England as early as Friday nigh.

Starting 10 P.M. through 2 A.M. on Saturday, Vermont, New Hampshire, and northern Mass. will have the best chances of seeing this geomagnetic activity. Unfortunately, not so much in greater Boston.

However, storm weather scientists still recommend taking a picture of the night sky with your phone because cameras can capture light that is often naked to the human eye.

The northern lights made one-of-its-most vibrant appearance in the region back in May.
