BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Taxidermy, animal bones, and funeral collectibles, oh my! Marketed as an event for lovers of the strange and unusual, The Oddities and Curiosities Expo arrived in Boston on Saturday to celebrate the peculiar and eerie for the weekend.
Known as one of the world's largest traveling oddities fairs, attendees indulged in all things weird sold by artists, dealers, and small businesses from across the nation.
Vendors like Jason Haack of Abby Normal’s Museum of the Strange traveled from South Dakota to sell teeth rings, animal skulls, and mystery items in police evidence bags while Josh of Josh's Boneyard in Florida showcased his staining techniques on animal skeletal structures.
"I sell a whole range of wholesale skulls and diaphonized specimens," said Josh.
Created by Tony and Michelle Cozzaglio, the "DIY" run show also featured sideshow performances on stage and the opportunity to learn about taxidermy and entomology. As creepy and bizarre as the event may seem, one thing that seemed to scare some of the vendors the most, was their time in Boston.
"Oh, it's horrible. The streets are crazy and chaotic. There's people walking in the streets and yeah, it's just crazy out here," said Josh.
The team from Abby Normal’s Museum of the Strange echoed the sentiment.
"So coming out here is kind of a culture shock as far as the way they drive and the way they behave around here."
