DUXBURY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Parking fees have been wiped away for a number of beaches on the South Shore.
Now that Labor Day has come and passed, some of the public beaches on the South Shore no longer require a sticker to park. Some other beaches that use a pay-per-day parking system will waive fees through Memorial Day.
Duxbury Beach uses the pay-per-day system, charging $25 in cash to park at the beach during the summer. Even though the water is a little colder, warm weather has many residents are taking advantage of the free parking.
“I’m on board. I’m all for it,” said Tonya.
For Don, who spends the summer on the South Shore, he would like it if they lowered the rate at times throughout the summer.
“Maybe they could look at reducing it on certain weekends, especially during the summer,” said Don.
Duxbury resident Cliff said he would never pay for beach parking.
“It’s just another nickel and dime to just bury me deeper in debt quite frankly. People have student loans [and] people are just trying to struggle to make it,” said Cliff.
