BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) —The Sumner Tunnel is scheduled to reopen on Monday, Aug. 5 after a month-long closure, according to MassDOT.
MassDOT said roads will be open at 5:00 a.m. before the morning commute.
The Sumner Tunnel, an essential route that connects East Boston to downtown and Logan Airport, was shut down on July 5 for reconstruction work.
Last year, MassDOT scheduled closures to update the ceiling. This year’s closure focused on roadways, drainage, and structural support.
MassDOT said there are still a couple more closures scheduled for August and during the fall. For now, every weekend starting Aug. 6 until Labor Day weekend, the Sumner Tunnel will be closed for extra construction work.
Further evaluations will be conducted to determine future closures beyond August.
Nearly $160 million was invested for the Sumner Tunnel project, hoping that 100 percent of the project to be completed by the end of November.
