TOPSFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – America’s oldest fair is back after being canceled last year because of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
The Topsfield Fair is set to kick off Friday night at the Topsfield Fairgrounds. The first event will be the Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off starting at 4:00 p.m. Opening day will go until 10:00 at night.
General Manager James O’Brien said the last time the fair closed because of a pandemic was during the Spanish Flu Pandemic.
O’Brien expects this year’s fair to be even bigger than in the past and said ticket presales have been through the roof.
“They ended up having five or six fairs in a row. They were record fairs,” he said. “That’s what we’re expecting here. So, we’re really excited and we think we think we’re going to have a big year.”
The fair will run from October 1 through October 11. Tickets are available for 15 dollars on October 1 and October 4 to 7 and are 20 dollars each on October 8, weekends and October 11.
