NORTH ATTLEBORO, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — "Poppy" the nine-week-old Bernadoodle is about to serve as a comfort dog for a strong family in North Attleboro.
14-year-old Tiegan Ryan was diagnosed with leukemia nearly a year ago and since then has spent many months in the hospital. Thanks to the Lilly Lights the Way Childhood Cancer Foundation, Tiegan is gaining Poppy as an extra ally in her fight against cancer, with the pup about to undergo training to fill in as a therapy dog.
WBZ's Kim Tunnicliffe spoke with the family and found that Tiegan and Poppy are already hitting it off as besties.

"Super excited, she's so cute and just snuggled right up to me," Tiegan said.
Tiegan is a competitive dancer and student that has had to miss out on regular kid life, so with Poppy in tow, mom Ruth says she's thankful for the support.
"Anxiety, emotional support, just someone to love on and spend time with. It's a club I didn't want to be a part of, never thought I'd be a part of, but it's amazing to have the support of people who have gone through this as well," Ruth said.
