On Wednesday, police clarified in another social media post that the sighting was near 30 Prospect St.
Police urged residents to avoid approaching or attempting to feed the bear, and to keep a safe distance and do not run if they encounter the bear; instead, they should back away slowly and make loud noises to scare it away, police said.
Police also said residents should secure their trash and either take down their bird feeders during bear season or hang them in a place where bears cannot reach them.
If anyone sees a bear, they are asked to contact the Oxford Police Department at 508-987-0156.
