BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — A sea of rainbow covered Copley Square Saturday as thousands of people packed the streets for the annual Boston Pride For the People Parade.

Cliff of Needham told WBZ NewsRadio that it was inspiring to see so many young people supporting the cause. “When I was in high school, I was the only gay person in the whole school, so it feels wonderful to come out here and see everybody,” he said.

Ina of Worcester showed up wearing a shirt that said "free mom hugs" offering support to LGBTQ kids. “As a mom, it’s my duty to help any other people who don’t get the love and respect that they need and hold,” she said.

Organizers said they are expecting a record-breaking attendance this year as a national “No Kings” protest was held along side the event to demonstrate against actions of the Trump administration.

Protesters like Bob said it’s all about showing strength in numbers. “This is not a weak community,” he said.

Greg from Newton added that it was particularly important now to show solidarity. “It’s not just about LGBT,” he said “DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) is about everybody, and Pride is about welcoming everybody into the community not just LGBT.”

Marching with the MBTA float was Love on the Spectrum’s couple Pari and Tina. As they waved to spectators, Pari and Tina wished everyone to "have a T-riffic Pride.”
