BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Thousands of people marched from Boston Common to Boston City Hall Saturday for the “Hands Off” protest aimed to send a message to President Donald Trump and advisor Elon Musk.

The “Hands Off” protest called on local leaders and everyday people to take part in a “nationwide mobilization” to fight back against the current administration “with a clear message: Hands off!”

Senator Ed Markey was at the march and told WBZ NewsRadio that this is “making sure our voices are heard, that we are the national leader in 2025 the same way that we were in 1775, when King George tried to take away our rights.”

The Trump Administration and Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency have slashed federal funding and pared down the government workforce. Many of the cuts have impacted workers and organizations in Boston.

“This is a direct attack on everything Massachusetts stands for,” Markey said, calling the nationwide march a modern-day “revolution.”

“We will not accept a King Donald making decisions that strip people of their rights, of their constitutional rights,” he said.

Congresswoman Ayana Pressley (MA-07) and Mayor Michelle Wu were also in attendance to address the massive crowd.

“We will not sit by while Donald trump and his billionaire friends dismantle the protections that our families count on,” Wu said.

Several other protests also took place around Greater Boston, including in Waltham, Salem and Wakefield.

“This is an unprecedented moment,” Congresswoman Pressley said. “This is our chapter of our civil rights movement which we are still very much in.”

The demonstration was one of the largest since the Trump Administration took office.
