BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It's the heart of apple picking season — and just in time, three New England apple orchards have ranked in the top ten country-wide. The new list is courtesy of USA Today.
Number 10 is a Massachusetts spot, Tougas Family Farm in Northborough. The farm describes itself as a "second generation fruit farm," which offers everything from pick-your-own strawberries in the spring to dozens of apple varieties in the fall.
Jaswell's Farm in North Smithfield, Rhode Island came in 9th. That farm has been in business for more than 120 years, and also features a farm stand and bakery.
The highest New England made it on the list was number 6, for Libby & Son U-Picks, in Limerick, Maine. The orchard has been open since the 1950's, with apples, blueberries and raspberries open for picking through October.
Milburn Orchards in Elkton, Maryland took home the #1 spot.
