BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) Massachusetts residents are being excluded from buying tickets for the Red Sox-Yankees Wild Card playoff series on Ticketmaster.

In a statement on its website, Ticketmaster said “Yankee Stadium in located in Bronx, New York. Sales to this event will be restricted to residents of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Residency will be based on credit card billing address.”

Anyone who tries to buy tickets outside of those states will have their orders canceled without notice and refunds will be given, according to Ticketmaster.

Ticketmaster told CBS News Boston that “sometimes teams will place geographic restrictions on certain events to give local fans the best chance to attend.”

Most New England fans will have to find other places to buy tickets.

Other popular ticket sites like SeatGeek and StubHub don’t appear to have similar geographic restrictions in place.

Game 1 is on Tuesday, with first pitch at 6:08 p.m. All games in the best-of-three series are in New York.
