BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — To travel sans phone or not to travel sans phone, that is the question. How long can you survive without your smartphone? One Bostonian attempted to travel without it, and it didn't go well.
"It was the worst three days of my life."
Another Bostonian couldn't imagine a day without it.
"I forgot it, was on the highway — made a complete U-turn to go back home and get my phone."
Several smartphone users in Boston echoed the same sentiment. According to the Pew Research Center, 98% of Americans own a cellphone of some kind, and about nine in ten, approximately 91%, own a smartphone. That's up 35% since the first study was conducted in 2011. It's evident that residents in the Bay State will do whatever they can to avoid being without their electronic devices.
A Beyoncé fan about to board a train to New Jersey to catch Queen Bey on tour said there was no way she could make that trip without her smartphone or any electronic device for that matter.
"I'd be looking for my laptop, I'd go on my Apple watch to track it."
Although we didn't start using cell phones with internet access until 2001, some locals couldn't fathom the idea of living without it.
"I don't know any other way. Like I just came in here and I checked my phone for my train ticket, what track it's on, what time, what the train number is," said one resident.
While some may travel sans phone, others simply cannot.
