BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tuesday was National Library Worker's Day (NLWD), a day to recognize library professionals for all of the work they do, often underpaid, to further literacy and help enrich our communities through lifelong learning.
As part of NLWD, the Boston Public Library (BPL) said it is honoring its professionals who keep libraries running... librarians, technicians, other staff including custodians, security and maintenance workers.
BPL said its staff annually serves nearly four million visitors in person, millions more on-line, organizes and hosts 12,000 programs for all ages, and supports and grows communities throughout the city at its 25 locations.
According to BPL, established in 1848, it was the first large free municipal library in the United States, the first public library to lend books, the first to have a branch library, and the first to have a children’s room.
