BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning announced his retirement Thursday, and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady chimed in on Twitter to congratulate his rival on a "great career."

But Brady couldn't help but throw a little shade toward Manning, whose 16-year career with the Giants saw him crushing the Patriots' Super Bowl hopes in 2007—after their perfect season—and again in 2011.
Former Pats linebacker Tedy Brusci, a member of that 2007 Patriots squad forever haunted by the loss to Eli's Giants, responded in agreement with Brady.
Manning is retiring as the highest-paid NFL player ever, while NBC Sports Boston's Gary Tanguay reported that Brady is "embarrassed" by the number of NFL quarterbacks making more money than him.
