BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Tom Brady is leaving the New England Patriots.
The quarterback made the announcement in a series of stunning social media posts Tuesday morning.
"Although my football journey will take place elsewhere, I appreciate everything that we have achieved and am grateful for our incredible team accomplishments," Brady wrote. "I don't know what my football future holds but it is time for me to open a new stage for my life and career."
Head Coach Bill Belichick responded to Brady's departure, saying how strong their relationship is and that Brady is the greatest quarter back of all time.
"Examples of Tom's greatness are limitless, going back even before he was drafted," Belichick said in a statement released on Twitter. "We witnessed how prepared when he wasn't playing, how he performed when he got his opportunity, what he did to continuously improve, his leadership, his mindset, the example he set, and, of course, the person he is."
In the same statement online, Patriots Chairman and CEO Robert Kraft said he "loved Tom like a son" and "always will."
"There simply will never be another Tom Brady," Kraft said. "I now look forward to the day we can bring him back home to England to celebrate his Patriots career, his endless achievements, and his legacy...I love him very much."
