Report: Feeling Around The NFL Is That Brady Returns To New England

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — It would appear the other teams across the NFL are preparing for Tom Brady to re-sign with New England.

That's according to Bleacher Report's Matt Miller, who reported the information that "the feeling around the NFL is that Tom Brady will return to New England—and get some help," via a meme on social media Thursday night.

Miller, who is Bleacher Report's lead NFL Draft writer, didn't send any additional tweet on the subject or speak on the radio or podcast about it, but does cite a former Patriots' staffer who says "Bill Belichick knows he can't win with any other available QB."

But, according to ESPN Patriots Insider Mike Reiss, there have been no contract based talks between Brady and the Patriots.

As of late last week, the sides had not engaged in contract talks, per sources. But as Brady noted in his Super Bowl LIV interview on Westwood One, there is open dialogue between him and the Patriots, which reflects that the situation is without animosity.

"They know how I feel about them, I know how they feel about me," Brady said. "We’ve always had a great relationship. We always will."

Another locally based Patriots Insider, Jeff Howe of The Athletic, said that we are still about two weeks away from any real substance in "Brady Watch."

So while Miller's report is exciting if you're a Patriots fan, there doesn't appear to be any evidence that the quarterback and New England are closing in on a deal.

The second part of Miller's report is interesting, however. He names tight end Hunter Henry and wide receiver A.J. Green as two names that have been frequently coming up as potential targets for the Pats. Both Henry, 25, and Green, 31, have been injury-riddled the past few seasons, Henry missed four games in 2019 after missing the entire 2018 season while Green has not played an NFL game since Week 13 of the 2018 season, dealing with chronic foot/ankle injuries.

Both players' injury histories may cause a lot of teams to stay away from the pair, but that is also the reason they make perfect targets for the Patriots. We've seen New England bring once-star players in on "prove-it" type deals many times in the past (Darrelle Revis immediately comes to mind), and they could easily do it again with Henry and Green. The key thing with these two players, however, is the question of whether they are enough to give Brady the "weapons" that he reportedly wants the Patriots to go out and acquire.

We'll find out in the coming weeks. In the meantime, it looks like the Brady family is spending Valentine's Day at their Montana cabin.
