REVERE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — There was already a lot of sand on the shores of Revere Beach; now there is a whole lot more of it.
More than 200 tons of sand was dropped off in preparation for the upcoming 19th annual International Sand Sculpting Festival running Friday, July 28 to Sunday, July 30.
Renowned sculptors from around the world will descend on America's first public beach to craft numerous sandy sculptures, including a massive centerpiece in tribute to a cinematic icon.
"It’s actually the 90th anniversary of 'King Kong,' so it’s going to be a big King Kong fighting a T-Rex," sculptor Melineige Beauregard told WBZ NewsRadio Thursday.
It will take six people six days to carve the brawling monsters after putting the sand onto wooden frames and stacking them one on top of the other.
"It’s the biggest that they’ve ever done, like, it’s going to be very impressive and amazing," Beauregard said. "It’s going to be pretty cool."
