TOPSFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Thrill-seeking bike riders have a new home in Topsfield.
The town just opened the new Bare Hill Pump Track, a special course for bicyclists looking for some off-road run. Topsfield resident Kim Daly helped bring the idea to life, she said she was inspired by how much her kids love biking.
"It's a series of what we call berms, or hills, to catch speed and loop around in a continuous jump and it's a lot of fun," Daly said. "You start at the top of a hill and then you ride down the hill and then you go over a series of jumps and bumps with a pumping motion of your arms. That's why it's called the pump track."
It took Daly several years to help make the Bare Hill Pump Track a reality. She worked with the Topsfield Playground Committee and got support from the community to help the project get over the finish line. Even though its only been open for a few days, it's already proving to be a big hit with the local community.
"I think for the space provided to them they did an outstanding job," Matt, a biker from neighboring Boxford, said. "Two really good corners to practice in, a bunch of rollers, and some safe doubles to hit so that way you can just build up your confidence."
The track, located right off Route 97, is designed for bikers of any skill level. Matt said he thinks having something like this nearby is fantastic.
"I would have been thrilled to have this growing up," he said. "This is what kids need—to get outside, enjoy the weather, and be with their friends."
