BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The National Weather Service issued a Tornado Watch and several Severe Thunderstorm Warnings throughout New England on Sunday.
According to NWS Boston, the first "Severe Thunderstorm Warnings" were issued until 3:15 p.m. for several towns in Connecticut, just south of Springfield, Mass. Winds were expected up to 60 mph, with penny-sized hail possible.
Shortly after 3 p.m., NWS Boston issued a Tornado Watch for western Connecticut, western Massachusetts, and parts of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.
In Massachusetts, the Tornado Watch is in effect for Hampshire, Berkshire, Hampden and Franklin Counties.
NWS said until 10 p.m., those regions could see up to ping-pong ball size hail, scattered wind gusts up to 70 mph, and "a few tornadoes."
Weather experts said New England could also get some heavy rain on Tuesday from Tropical Storm Isaias, which was downgraded from a Category 1 Hurricane as it neared the southeast coast of Florida on Sunday.
