HAVERHILL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Heavy rain and strong winds struck a wet and windy blow to Massachusetts Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning.
The rainfall, mixed with melting snow from Sunday's winter storm, caused flooding and power outages across the state.
"You have 18 inches that just disappeared, so where does all that water go?" a Haverhill Public Works Department employee told WBZ NewsRadio. "When that stuff melts, it’s got to go somewhere."
Crews in Haverhill and other communities worked throughout the night to mitigate the flooding. They not only had to work in rough conditions, but also had to deal with unconcerned drivers.
"They don’t care. They don’t care about you, they just want to go somewhere. You just have to go with it," the Haverhill PWD employee said.
The storm also impacted MBTA service. Shuttle buses replaced Red Line service between Quincy Center and Braintree due to flooding.
