CONCORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Tough Ruck was held Sunday in Concord, Mass. It is a marathon where veterans, first responders, and civilians walk and run while carrying heavy military-style rucksacks.

As the first runners crossed the finish line, Mimi Chesna put medals around their necks. Chesna is the mother of fallen Weymouth police officer Michael Chesna, who was killed in the line of duty last summer.

“Michael was taken from us so unexpectedly and so tragically. But, all these people supporting all the fallen heroes, and all the fallen policemen, you just can’t believe the people are still remembering and are never going to forget. And that’s so, so important to us,” Chesna said.

The race raised money for the Military Friends Foundation.

A group of Weymouth police officers took part in the race in Michael Chesna’s memory.
