HARWICH, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Town of Harwich, Mass. issued a Do Not Drink Order over concerns about contaminated water.

According to the Harwich Water Department, the order was issued on Tuesday night, after an earlier fire on Great Western Road. Firefighting foam was used to put out the fire, which officials said had entered the water source impacting North Harwich residents.

The town has urged residents to use bottled water for “drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.” According to the Do Not Drink Order, water can be used for bathing and doing laundry.

The town also said that they had been flushing the water on Tuesday night to bring it back to the proper quality. Residents were also encouraged to run their cold water taps to flush the contaminants out of their system.

The Do Not Drink Order was reduced to just the locally impacted area of North Harwich at 11:55 A.M. on Wednesday, April 10.
