Tractor-Trailer Carrying Mail Falls Into Charles River In Newton

NEWTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Just before noon on Saturday in Newton, the Massachusetts State Police said they responded with Weston Police to a tractor-trailer that went off road and into an embankment of water in the Charles River.

The MSP said that the truck was carrying United States mail, and that U.S Postal Inspectors have been notified.

The Newton Fire Department told drivers to avoid the area of Route 128 North near Route 30 and the Mass. Pike to 128N.

The MSP said that the driver of the vehicle could not swim and was standing on the atop the truck when first responders arrived. Police said no injuries were reported, and that Weston Firefighters brought the driver ashore. Officials said that the driver was transported by Newton Medic 2 to Brigham and Women's Hospital for evaluation.
