BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Rideshare passengers are now paying an extra $5.50 when getting picked up or dropped off at Boston Logan Airport. The new fee, which went into effect on Tuesday, is an increase from a previous $3.25 fee.

Approved in March, the Massport board said the increase is needed to raise money for airport infrastructure improvements. It’s also to encourage more travelers to use public transportation or carpool to get to the airport.

David, a rideshare passenger at Logan Airport Wednesday morning said he "hadn't notice" the fee change.

“I don't mind paying the extra two dollars," David added. "The 'T' and its running's, especially around the Back Bay area, have been a little freaky, so I've actually been more inclined to use rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft. I don't mind the change."

Some rideshare drivers, however, feel like the increase could affect their business.

"It's slow now, so yes, I think it's going to have an effect, said one driver.

Fees also went up for limousine and taxi pickups, employee parking, as well as terminal and economy parking for travelers.
