BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Traffic for this year's Thanksgiving and Black Friday week is looking to be nearly equal to what was seen prior to the pandemic.
According to a forecast from the American Automobile Association, there's going to be about 20,000 more travelers on the road per day than during the 2021 Thanksgiving season. Officials say this year is projected to mark the third-busiest Thanksgiving travel period since 2000.
The best times to leave and avoid heavy traffic are any time before 11 a.m. Thanksgiving morning or anytime before 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. Though according to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, the worst traffic congestion will be on the backend, as drivers hit the roads heading home on Sunday.
Other top contenders for the worst travel times are Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons.

For air travel, officials recommend passengers arrive to Logan International Airport at least two hours before boarding. An estimated 64,000 passengers are expected to fly out of Logan during peak days, about 20,000 more than what was seen around this time in 2021.
