UPDATE: MassDOT tells WBZ NewsRadio that they are working with the tow company on scheduling the cleaning of the trash and debris. Crews, paid for by the tow company, are scheduled to perform this work on Wednesday, August 11.

NORWELL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) – While trash is not uncommon to be left on highways, a larger mess remains on the side of Route 3 in Norwell.

Last Wednesday, a tractor trailer hauling trash tipped over and spilled its load on the shoulder of the road.

The garbage has been kept there to stay out of the way of traffic but it is still causing an issue for drivers. It is a nasty and smelly mix of bottles, food wrappers, tarps and more.

At this time there is no word as to who is responsible for the cleanup. In the meantime it may be best for drivers on the route to keep their windows up to avoid the bad smell.
