Trooper Injured After Driver Strikes Cruiser During Crash Investigation

SEEKONK, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A Massachusetts State Trooper sustained minor injuries early this morning, when his cruiser was struck by a passing vehicle while he was investigating a rollover crash.

According to MSP, several Troopers responded to the single-vehicle rollover crash on Route 195 eastbound in Seekonk at around 3:30 a.m. The driver, a 20-year-old man from New Bedford, was found with life-threatening injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital.

Because of the severity of the victim's injuries, special units, including the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS), responded to assist in the investigation.

While on scene, a cruiser occupied by a Trooper with CARS was struck by a passing vehicle. The driver, a 74-year-old woman from Yarmouthport, is expected to be cited.

The 32-year-old male Trooper sustained minor injuries and was transported to Rhode Island Hospital for examination, and later released.

Another CARS Trooper responded to the scene and continued the crash reconstruction. MSP said the investigation into the cause of the initial crash is ongoing.
