HAMPTON, N.H. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A fiery crash near a Hampton, New Hampshire tollbooth seriously injured a driver Saturday, police said.

New Hampshire State Police said Troopers responded to the Hampton Toll Plaza on I-95 around 4:11 p.m. for a report of a crash and found a Ford F-150 fully engulfed in flames.

Investigators said the driver, 43-year-old Patrick Jones of South Portland, Maine, struck a concrete abutment next to a tollbooth after suddenly changing lanes, causing the pickup to fly into the air before crashing and catching fire.

Jones and a child passenger were out of the car by the time police arrived, officials said.

Police said Jones was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. The child was not injured in the crash, but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

A tollbooth attendant inside the adjacent booth at the time of the crash was not injured, said officials.

Police said while they do not suspect impairment to be a factor, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
