BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The busy travel period surrounding the Fourth of July holiday is expected to be in full swing through July 8.

According to the TSA, an estimated 32 million people are expected to travel through America’s airports during that period, an expected increase of over five percent compared to last year.

WBZ NewsRadio spoke to travelers at Logan Airport to get their thoughts about the busy season.

“It’s definitely busier, that’s the first thing we said when we got off the escalator, so hopefully it moves quick,” said April, who is off to Fort Lauderdale for a cruise.

Luis and Evelyn are traveling from San Diego for the upcoming Red Sox and Padres game. They told WBZ NewsRadio they are looking forward to avoiding the hectic summer travel season after this trip.

“We took this month and kind of got [all our travel] out of the way, so it was good,” said Luis.

Another couple at Logan also told WBZ NewsRadio they are looking to avoid overcrowded airport terminals.

“So, after [our trip to Atlanta] we will be making it down to Panama City Beach where [my husband’s] parents live, and then back for the summer mostly because we have a little one, so trying to keep it a little calmer this summer,” a member of the couple said.

The TSA has predicted its busiest summer travel season ever, with an expected 270 million people to travel through Labor Day, the official end to the summer travel season.
