BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) expects to screen 2.8 million travelers by the end of Tuesday, and passengers at Boston Logan Airport joined the rush.
The TSA said it expects to screen a record of 18.3 million passengers between Tuesday and the Monday after Thanksgiving, Dec. 2. Some Logan passengers, hoping to avoid long lines, flew out early Tuesday morning. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday are expected to be the busiest travel days.
“Definitely planned to get here a lot earlier than I might have needed to but definitely better to be on that side of [the rush],” Tim, who is traveling to Florida, said. “I remember last year flying out it was packed, and I was definitely worried about making my flight, but this year it’s doing alright.”
Lisa from Utah agreed but said she could “already feel the frustration in people because they expect it to start getting worse.”

Josh was visiting Boston for a business trip, and is optimistic that he will make it back home in time for Thanksgiving meal prep.
“I’m used to it. I’ve kind of learned how to navigate the holiday traffic over the years. I was here [in Boston] for business, I have one trip to make in Washington D.C., and then onto Raleigh this evening.”
The TSA said this year has seen a record number of travelers.
“The 10 busiest travel days in TSA’s history have all occurred in 2024, and we anticipate that trend to continue,” TSA Administrator David Pekoske, said. “Working alongside our airport and airline partners and the FAA, we have optimized staffing and will do our best to maintain our wait time standards: less than 10 minutes for TSA PreCheck lanes and less than 30 minutes for standard screening lanes.”
