MEDFORD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — The union representing Resident Assistants at Tufts University has announced RAs will strike on Tuesday, the move-in day for new students.
RAs are holding a rally today on campus answering questions about their strike and trying to gather support from students, faculty, and staff.
At issue is wages.
RAs already have their rooms paid for during the academic year, but they said they also need a stipend.
As a response, the university said in a statement its 'room and board plan both aligns with their values as an institution and is in line with best practices and industry standards.'
Talks have been going on since February, but there's been no agreement.
Another round of negotiations is scheduled for today.
Both the university and the RA's union have said they continue to remain hopeful for a deal.
Meanwhile, school officials said they have a plan in place to fully support students if there is a strike.
