WELLSELEY, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Thousands of people going tizzy for tulips at the Massachusetts Horticultural Society in Wellesley.

The third annual Tulip Mania is officially open. In preparation for spring, the society planted over 75,000 tulip bulbs with a variety colors and designs, such as white base with red stripes.

“It’s our big colorful pop-into-spring event,” Allison Dush, director of education and guest experience, told WBZ NewsRadio, and it has been growing every year.

She added that their first year had over 3,000 people stopping by to see the field and that number doubled the following year. This year they are expecting more than 7,000 people.

“When you walk in, you’ll see our display field,” Dush said. “That’s just good for pictures, and a real wow factor.”

Guests can also take part in the “pick-your-own” activity to take home a bouquet of flowers. Dush said the society provides all the tools needed for the activity onsite.

“So, while you can come bring a picnic, take pictures, you still walk away with tulips,” she continued.

The tulip fields will only bloom for a couple weeks.

“You have to rush a get your spot [because] we’re playing games with mother nature here,” Dush said. “We don’t know how long they’re going to last.”
