Two B.A.A. Athletes Meet Qualifying Standards For Paris Summer Olympics

BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two athletes from the Boston Athletic Association’s B.A.A High-Performance Team have qualified for Team USA in the 2024 Paris Olympics happening from July 26-August 11 this summer in the French capital.  

The two athletes, Annie Rodenfels and Bethany Hasz will first have to compete in the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Track & Field, which will be held later this month in Eugene, Oregon from June 21-30.

Rodenfels is expected to compete in the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a preliminary round being held on June 24 with a final on June 27, while Hasz will compete in the women’s 5000 m preliminary round on June 21 with a final on June 24, according to a press release from the B.A.A.  

For the athletes to meet qualifying standards for the Olympic games, they must finish within the top three for each event if they have previously met the Olympic standard or earned the requisite number of qualifying points.

Looking at prior records, Rodenfels’ personal best in the steeplechase currently stands at 9:25:48, which she set last year, Meanwhile, Hasz holds a lifetime best record for the 5000 m race with a time of 15:05:80, set on May 17 of this year.  

According to a press release, the B.A.A. ‘s High Performance team supports runners on their way towards making international teams, with the goal of competing at the highest level: the Olympic Games, World Athletics Championships, and Abbott World Marathon Majors.
