BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two brothers, who are also local officials, passed out thousands of turkeys to low-income families ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday on Saturday.
This is the fourth annual Worrell Turkey Drive held by State Rep. Christopher Worrell and Boston City Councilor Brian Worrell.
More than 3,500 turkeys were passed out to families across three communities including Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan.
State Rep. Worrell told WBZ NewsRadio that now they have the abilities, it’s more important than ever that he and his brother give back to the community that raised them.
“Just knowing how important it is to make a smile on someone’s face this time of year,” City Councilor Worrell added.
The turkey giveaway began at Mattapan Teen Center, making eight stops along the way, and ended at the Trotter School Playground in Roxbury.
Councilor Worrell said that seeing the hundreds of people at every stop just goes to show how important these drives are to the community, especially during the holiday season. “It brings all these things together and just loving every bit of it,” he continued.
