WAREHAM, Mass. (WBZ News Radio) – Two stranded dolphins were rescued in Wareham on Tuesday morning. When the tide went out, it left behind two common dolphins in the marsh of the Beaverdam Creek area.
The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW)'s Marine Mammal Stranding Response Team came to the rescue of the two dolphins. The IFAW examined them in the marsh and then loaded them into a transport vehicle to bring them to get a full physical evaluation.
The two dolphins were alive and active when crews responded. Of the two porpoises one is larger than the other weighing in at an estimated 90 and 150 pounds.
Crews with the IFAW, Wareham Department of Natural Resources and other responding agencies say that they hope the dolphins will soon be able to be released back to the wild.
