BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — The Boston Fire Department says more than two dozen people were without a home after a huge blaze torched part of a Mattapan building Sunday evening.

Firefighters first responded to the fire at 571 Cummins Highway just after 7:00 p.m. "Thick, black smoke" filled the neighborhood and flames were easily visible from the street. Firefighters were able to knock down the fire after just 20 minutes or so. Still, the blaze managed to completely destroy the porches and rear of the building.

Five people had minor injuries and had to be taken to the hospital, including two firefighters. 25 residents of the building were displaced. The Red Cross is helping house them in the interim. The Boston Fire Department is still investigating what caused the fire.
