ORANGE, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A three-alarm fire seriously injured two older adults and displaced all four occupants at a home in Orange Wednesday night, fire officials said.

According to Orange Fire Chief James Young and State Fire Marshal Jon M. Davine, the fire broke out shortly before midnight at 99 West River St.

Fire crews arrived on scene and found heavy fire in the rear of the building. After learning one of the home's occupants was trapped inside, firefighters entered the burning building and rescued an older adult, officials said.

The rescued victim was provided medical care at the scene and then transported to Athol Memorial Hospital. A second injured person, also an older adult, was hospitalized. Both were later taken to Boston hospitals, said authorities.

Two other adult occupants safely escaped the fire.

Officials said the home was badly damaged by the fire and considered a total loss. The fire does not appear suspicious. Wood stoves were used to heat the home.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
