FRANKLIN, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two suspects have been arrested and one is still at large after a police chase from Rhode Island to Massachusetts on Friday.
A shelter-in-place order was issued in Franklin on Friday morning in the area of Washington Street from South Street to Grove Street while officers investigated an armed robbery.
Officials said a car crashed in the city while carrying three suspects connected to an armed home invasion on Blackstone Street in Woonsocket, Rhode Island overnight.
Rhode Island authorities said the incident was reported at 2:30 a.m. -- and two men were found at the home bound in duct tape, but uninjured.
Suspects then led police on a car chase into Franklin and fled into the woods where their car crashed. Two of the men were arrested, and one remains at large.
The apprehended suspects have been identified as 29-year-old Jerome Tyson Lopes of Brockton and 34-year-old Joshua Goncalves of Fall River.
Woonsocket Police Commander Thomas F. Oates also said that they believe this was a targeted incident, and officials recovered a "great deal" of money and a firearm.
The shelter-in-place has since been lifted in Franklin, and police said there is no active threat to the public.
"We searched everywhere we could and we just do not believe that that [third suspect] is still in the area," Police Chief Thomas J. Lynch said.
Police are questioning Lopes and Goncalves to track down the third suspect as an investigation continues.
