BOSTON (WBZ NewsRadio) — Two teenage males and one juvenile female were arrested after attacking two men at an MBTA station over the weekend, officials said.
The Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said Transit Police responded to Mattapan Station on Sunday for reports of an individual being assaulted. Upon arrival, officers were notified that a group had attacked two MBTA passengers and had fled on foot.
One of the victims reportedly told officers that he saw Joshua Venter, 18, of Boston yelling at the other victim, 63, after he asked Venter to stop smoking on a trolley because there was a baby on board. As they exited the trolley, Venter and Kevin Jones, 18, of Boston punched the first victim with closed fists, the DA's office said.
Venter, Jones and the juvenile then attacked the second victim when he tried to intervene. According to the DA's office, a bystander captured video of Venter, Jones, and juvenile stomping and kicking the second victim, resulting in visible lacerations on his head, lips, arms, and knees.
Officials said the second victim followed the three suspects when they left the station and helped police identify them as they walked down Blue Hill Avenue.
Venter and Jones were arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on April 18 for assault and battery on an elder or disabled person, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot), assault and battery, and disorderly conduct on public conveyance.
The judge overseeing the case released Jones and Venter on personal recognizance and ordered both to return to court on June 15 for pre-trial hearings.
The juvenile faces similar charges and will be arraigned at a later date.
